In the application of supplier development programmes by Centre for Supplier Development, it is evident that SMME’s have difficulty in offering competitive pricing to the buying organisations and so lose out on the opportunity to become a participant in the supply chain. In reality, without the transaction being fulfilled by an SMME, no transformation can ever result. In addition to this, SMME’s are confronted with tight cash flows, poor credit references, lack of technical knowledge, insufficient business knowledge etc. In order to address this situation, we have developed a trading network which supports SMME’s in overcoming these barriers and enables them to participate in the mainstream supply chain.
